I wonder what the ratio of finished to unfinished canvasses/projects I have laying around is.

Probably about 9 out of 10.

Nothing finished since graduating college, that's durn sure.

Also, I'm on a great Yahoo! Group for organizing for the artist... there's mostly scrapbookers, but they certainly do have a TON OF ART to organize, and it's great for motivation to either DO stuff or CLEAN stuff.

And for those of you interested in not-so-traditional crafts/media/etc. I've got a community (it's only got like, four people and I think I'm the only one who's posted, so this doesn't really count as advertising, does it?)

It's hardcorecrafts --

My usericon is a disembodied BRATZ doll head (it came that way... bodiless, I mean) that I ... zombified. I have pupaphobia (puppet fear) and have been working with dolls to work my way up to puppets to maybe get over it. We'll see if that ever happens.

motivation? What's that?

I have lots of unfinished projects and actually lots of unstarted projects. I have an entire room for my art supplies and art related stuff and it's a mess. I have been unmotivated to do anything artistically for quite a few months now. I am desperately searching for something to motivate me, I've even tried buying more new art supplies in hopes that would push me towards new creations, but alas, that hasn't really worked either.

Thanks for posting the Yahoo group and your livejournal group. I have joined both. I don't do anything with dolls other than casually collect them (I have 3 collector's dolls that I got from my late mother and others I've collected over time) but I do collages, jewelry, wire and glass and bead sculptures and sun-catchers, etc. I hope that fits in somewhat to the theme of your group. My livejournal icon is a collage that I did about myself.

Re: motivation? What's that?

Yeah, the group was just created as a response to some other groups on LJ that I belonged to that flipped out when serious questions regarding more subjective materials were asked (such as bones, skeletons, preservation of insects, etc.).

I wouldn't get too worked up about fitting into some concept, as it's just an LJ community, and there's not much of anything going on there yet anyway. :)

Thanks for joining, btw.

I also have a REALLY hard time getting motivated. I had a studio in my last home for over a year and did nothing in it but sit on the computer... (and store my stuff).

One of the best motivators I've found is postcrossing.com It's a postcard exchange thingy where you sign up and get some addresses, send them postcards and you get some in return... I make most of my postcards (I'm cheap) and it's a non-judgmental venue... it doesn't really matter what it looks like since it's going to a stranger, and it's a good small format, so it's not overwhelming, and you have an essentially limited time to do it in, so it's a good little thing to do. I also like it because doing postcards gives me a good excuse to play with all the fun art stuff I got to motivate myself and did nothing with. :)

Re: motivation? What's that?

Awesome about not fitting into a concept for your Livejournal Group. I went and signed up for a Deviant Art site. I don't have a ton of stuff on there, but here's the link: http://pandorasfilth.deviantart.com

I'm looking forward to chatting in your group.

Re: motivation? What's that?

Oh, and dolls, I'm not a huge doll-person, I never got anything but barbies as a kid. I'm not all into the customizing and japanese fashion dolls and whatnot (I have friends who are). It was just something that came to me, and I'm terrible at modelling from scratch, so it's easier to modify something already made...
